Man, it's been a while since I've written. Let's get in to the thick of it right off the bat, shall we?
Bush's nomination for UN Ambassador: is this guy for real? I'm going to plagiarize John Stewart a little here: your hair color and moustache need to match if you're to be a very public figure, especially if you're the United States' representative to a world organiztion. This jackass looks like a sinister Captain Kangaroo, which I suppose Dubya can relate to, as the Captain is supposed to appeal to childern. And for all of you Office Space fans.. the name Bolton just drips of evil, doesn't it? I'm curious as to who supports this guy besides Bush and Cheyney, it seems as if he has few friends on either side of the fence. Although I believe his comments will not be made public, I bet Powell hates this guy, too.
Now, is pop culture festering garbage these days or is it just me? 40 years ago, The Beatles were considered pop music; now we've got slutty schlock like Brittney Spears, twangy low-to-zero-IQ country like Toby Keith, unintelligable hip-hop like Ludacris.. what the hell happened? Are people getting stupider? This is a rhetorical question, of course.
Yesterday, I was unlucky enough to see the remake of the Amityville Horror. I had seen the remake of Dawn of the Dead last year and despite my love for the original, I gave it a solid 2.5 out of 4. So, off I went to see Amityville. I read the book as a young man, and saw the original movie in the eighties. I'm a big fan of horror, and even though I suspected I'd be disappointed.. I saw it anyway. Riddle me this: why can't movie studios JUST SAY NO to most remakes? During the past few years, the majority of mainstream American cinema was: remakes of older movies, TV show-to-movie, and cartoon (comic book included) to-movie. Are studios/writers/prodcers just running out of ideas here? Or have studio executives decided that they can just shovel shit into the craniums of the moronic public ad nauseum? Perhaps the cost of making movies is dropping, and due to that it's easier to profit off of anything they chrun out? It's no wonder everyone and their mothers pirate DVDs like mad, they have no respect for them! I'm not saying that all remakes are awful: I very much enjoyed HBO's remake of The Shining, but only because it was accurate in terms of following the book. Kubrick's rendition of the film is one of my favorites of all-time, but it has little to do with the original work. I also thought X-Men and Spiderman (and its sequel) were quite good as well. Anyway, to the point: I thought Amityville's modern remake was cruddy; 1.5 out of 4.
